A BRIEF GUIDE TO SENIOR TRAVEL INSURANCE

from:

Before you travel you may be wondering if senior travel insurance is something you need to worry about or not. While some private health insurance companies do offer this option, not all do. This includes social security Medicare, which is only good within the United States. Make sure you do everything you can to get senior travel insurance if you don't already have it. Double-check your current policy before looking for other alternatives to make sure you do have it. Make sure you also aware just how much is covered as well. Some Medicare supplements will cover up to a certain amount, although they usually involve reimbursement.

Keep in mind when it comes to senior travel insurance that if you are getting a packaged tour there may be age limits to which the insurance will cover. You should also remember that if you are going to buy some travel insurance that not all offer coverage for pre-existing conditions. This means you should research in both of these instances if you need coverage for this. Also with packaged tours very few will cover pre-existing conditions. Once you have this in mind there are few more things to be considered.

If you cannot get senior travel insurance through one of these methods try finding a medical assistance program that may be able to help. They are out there and should be easy to find. Good medical assistance programs will not only help you with coverage but should be available to help you find hospitals and doctors in the country you are visiting. They will also be there to conduct any consultations that may be needed as well arrange interpreters if need be in an emergency. These programs should also be able to cover any costs involved with medical evacuations or to help arrange for remains to be returned in case of death. These programs are usually not too expensive and should definitely be considered if you are traveling overseas.

There also may be a few senior travel insurance companies that are willing to cover you no matter what. The best way to find these is to get a hold of the U.S. State Department or the Bureau of Consular Affairs. They usually have lists of places that will be willing to help you and are not that expensive. While these may be a bit more expensive then medical assistance programs, they are usually good for just a short period and provide fuller coverage.

There are many things to consider when it comes to senior travel, including senior travel insurance. However worrying about your health the whole time can definitely ruin a good vacation. Taking the time ahead of time to check out your options and find the best one for you is a good idea. You will have peace of mind knowing that you are covered just in case.
